Welcome!

Thank you for stopping by Pictures for Peace!

This organization is based out of Grand Rapids, Michigan and was founded in November of 2012.  Pictures for Peace mission is to spread peace from our community to our neighbors abroad, by writing letters and sending pictures to our friends around the world.  For right now, we have been writing letters to Amazima (www.amazima.org) a school in Masese, Uganda.  In 2012/2013 we were able to write to each and every student, some students even received more than one letter!  We hope to do even better this year, and have as much involvement from local schools as possible!

While several schools have co-operated, we have two locally that have really embraced the project, and made it possible for Pictures for Peace to reach their goal of writing to every student:  KEC Oakleigh and West Michigan Academy of Environmental Sciences (WMAES).  In 2012 the entire elementary school at WMAES got involved, and now this year, it has made it's way into their high school as well!  Kudos as well in 2013 to KEC Oakleigh, as the entire elementary school is involved.  Also, a quick "thank you" to Perrysburg High School, in Perrysburg, Ohio, where one of the students heard about Pictures for Peace and embraced the mission and goal- spreading the word to his classmates and rallying the troops!  They ended up accounting for over 100 of the letters!

2013/2014 is going to be an amazing year for Pictures for Peace.  We may branch out into sending letters to other schools globally- we just need to find the right fit!  We are always looking to expand and are always in need of volunteers to write letters!  If you are interested in writing a letter or think your class, or school would be interested in participating, please email us at: picturesforpeace2012@gmail.com

If you would like to contribute a gift to help Pictures for Peace reach our goal, we are always in need of long envelopes, "If it fits it ships" boxes from the USPS, stickers to decorate the letters and envelopes and...your time!  If you are local and would like to help sort/organize the letters, email us picturesforpeace2012@gmail.com to see if there is an opportunity to help!
